Walgreens Deals

This past week Walgreens had a great deal on Jane brand cosmetics. Now those of you who know me know that I don't wear makeup very often but it was a good deal (or so I thought). The Walgreens add had Jane makeup on sale buy one get one free (BOGO) and had a $2.00 coupon in the Easy Saver Catolog for mascara. Online there is a coupon for $2.00 off any Jane product (thanks so much to the ladies on the message board for that heads up). I printed 10 of the coupons and then went to Walgreens. The cashier who helped me said that I could only use 5 coupons because of the free item. Different stores have different policies I guess. Anyway I did the same thing at the other Walgreens in my town and I still had to pay for them. Instead of getting them for free I paid a total of around $20.00 for 21 different Jane products. Not too bad but it could have been for free. Now I just need to use it :)

Typical Saturday

Well today is Saturday and around here that means it is "clean the house" day. I feel so busy during the week. I decided that I had 2 big things I wanted to get done today. The first is to find the living room floor - I mean put Levi's toys in one general area and put away the things I bought from Walgreens last week. The second task is to sweep and mop the kitchen floor.

Well I was successful at both tasks. I feel like it took all day because I had to do it in between feeding, changing, and playing with Levi. OK so I got online and blog hopped too. I got the bulk of it done while he slept. I put the baby swing away and took the blanket off the floor. Levi doesn't use the swing anymore now that he is more mobile and same for the blanket. He just rolls all around the room and doesn't stay on the blanket anymore. The kitchen floor got swept and quick mopped with the swiffer this time I'll have to get it deep cleaned next time. I also put away all the purchases. I have to say the living room now looks pretty open. Levi helped me clean up too :) He tries to get to his toys and kicks them with his feet.

Matt went and volunteered at the DI today so the house didn't get as clean today. He usually just jumps right in on cleaning. We do have set jobs that only he does and only I do. My set jobs are to wash clothes, wash the bottles and cups, and the bathroom while his job is to do the dishes and fix things. What I wouldn't give for a dishwasher and a washer and dryer.

Silly Boy

I had a few piles of Levi's clothes on the floor getting ready for the laundry while Levi was playing on the floor. I was on the computer and could still here Levi playing. I turned around to check on him and he had gotten into one of the piles of clothes and covered himself in them. He loves to play with clothes and blankets.

He tries to eat his bib during dinner if he doesn't get fed fast enough. So most of the pictures I have of him in his high chair he is eating his bib.

Levi still does not sit up on his own but as soon as he gets in his car seat he tries to sit up in there. He does this every time except when he is tired and then he falls asleep. I'll be driving and look back at him in the mirror and see his little head sticking up. Silly boy!

Interesting at Least to Me

Yesterday at my study group for Anatomy and Physiology, the professor sat with us and answered any questions that we had. One lady said that she was having a hard time figuring out how to calculate the stroke volume (SV), heart rate (HR), and cardiac output (CO) (all from the heart of course). He had us take our own pulse (heart rate) then we converted our weight to kilograms and times that by .07 (at least 7 % body weight is blood). After we did that we had CO and HR. The equation is CO=HR*SV. So we took CO/HR to get SV. I'll give you my numbers .59/100=0.059 Liters per heart beat (The amount the heart actually pumps out). We then converted that to milliliters which came out to be 59mL. Now picture a 20 oz bottle for pop or water. The amount of fluid in that bottle in milliliters is 591. So my heart pumps that whole amount after 10 beats.

Sorry if this was boring to you but it was very interesting to me. I just love knowing how the body works - especially my body.

Should guns be banned from universities?

In light of the recent shooting that occurred at NIU last Friday, a reporter stopped me on Sun and asked me for an interview. She asked me whether or not guns should be allowed on campuses. I hemmed and hawed and gave her an "I don't really know" answer and then the interview went like this:
Me: "Yes I think guns should be allowed on campuses."
her: "Oh, really? And why is that?"
me: shrugged my shoulders a bit and had no idea why I said that in the first place.
her: "well do you think that people should be kept safe?"
me: "Yes I think that people should be able to protect themselves . . . and uh . . . " silence
her: "is that is?"
me: "yes it is"
her: " no that's totally fine. That was what I was looking for."

Now that I think about it I'm not so sure exactly where I stand on that issue. Yes I am a student and I would hate for anything like that to happen on my campus and I think I'd feel safer if there were people allowed to carry a concealed weapon who really knew how to use it properly. And yet on the other hand I don't know if I want guns allowed on campus because I walk on campus with Levi all the time and I wouldn't want anything to happen to him or to me.

Matt thinks it would be safer if they allowed the guns because it is easier if someone walks into class with a pulled gun and there is someone who has a concealed weapon permit to just pull out their gun and shoot the person.

I'm still undecided and it is keeping me awake just thinking about it. Maybe because I had 2 people tell me that they saw me on the news. School was out today because of the holiday but will anyone else mention seeing me on tv when I go to classes this week? Was all of this really worth buying a newspaper in front of the ISU Library on Sunday? Oh that is what I was doing when I was asked to give the interview.

6 Months Old Already

Wow Levi reached the 6 month mark on Feb 15. He is getting heavier I can tell when I hold him. He cut his first tooth on the 8th of Feb. He had swollen gums for a week before that but he was his usual happy self until the tooth came in. After that he was much more fussy and clingy than usual. I promise I'll post some pictures soon.

Are You Up to the Challenge?

I saw online that there was a challenge either called the Hinckley Challenge or the 97 Day Challenge. No matter what you call it I am taking the challenge to read the Book of Mormon in 97 days in honor of Pres Hinckley. I actually started it last night but I did read 11 chapters to catch up to the other members of Babycenter's LDS thread who are taking the challenge. Most of them started reading on Feb 4.

Is it really February?

Can it really be February already? Where has the time gone? Wow things are just really busy around here. Matt is building a bookcase for Levi's room and working hard, I'm going to school, studying and taking care of Levi, and Levi is just growing and is as happy as ever. Levi is teething but he hasn't been too cranky.

We are still getting snow almost every weekend but the good thing is that we got a new front door. Now we don't have as much cold air blowing in all around the door. We are surviving all the cold weather though and haven't had the power go off for a few weeks. We can now have our heat turned higher than 72 degrees F when it gets cold at night. However we usually don't turn the heat up much higher than that. I really don't love apartment life :( Matt and I are looking into seeing if we can get into a house, maybe when our lease is up in May. We'll see how that goes.
