Crafty Sewing Blog Challenge #10

I decided to do the challenge this time. The options are either a tie or a crayon roll. I chose to make a tie and I really like how easy it was to make. Levi really liked it too after I put it on him. At first, he didn't want to wear it but after I told him how handsome he was he decided to wear it. I used the tutorial from http://veryhomemade.blogspot.com/2010/02/okay-so-heres-tutorial-on-how-to-make.html. The fabric is Jacks - big blue from JoAnn's. I wanted to make a vest out of the same material but Hubby said it was too loud for a vest but fine for a tie. He suggested that I make him an adult size one to match - maybe he was kidding.I was too tired to tell at that point.

He likes it so much that he will cheese for the camera.

Catching up

Life is busy but I really should take time to write about my kiddos more often. I started this as more of a journal the my kids can read when they are older and can see when they did this or that just like the journal my mom kept when I was growing up.

Levi is still loving letters and is sounding out words and trying to spell them. His favorite blankie is spelled "BLACE" and he is starting to get a friend or two from playgroup. His best friend is still his sister, Reah. He loves to play with cars and my nephew, Logan, just gave him a bunch of dinosaurs. He loves Toy Story and Cars and we watch either one of them once a day it seems. I am still trying to potty train him and it is frustrating to me because I know he can do it he is just interested in other things.

Reah is such a character. She has been telling me lately that she is a princess. She loves choosing her own clothes and often wears 2 different shoes (one red and one blue). She is all about wearing skirts and if I let her she would wear one every single day. It is still cold here so I make her pick tights or leggings to go under the skirt. Today she almost matched, she wore a pink shirt with flowers all over it and a pink striped leggings and a bright green skirt complete with the one red one blue shoes. She loves to play with her babies and change their diapers. I did have to take away the disposable wipes (or try to keep them out of her reach) when she had a huge pile for her baby's "stinky" I gave her a smaller cloth wipe that I had made. She also loves to play with Levi and usually ends up playing cars with him because that is what he wants. Reah is a great big sister and loves Kendra a lot (almost too much sometimes).

Kendra is now 9 months old (she will be 10 months soon) and is just a tiny thing. She was weighed last week and is only 15lbs even. She does love her food and eats a lot but it all must go to energy because she is a mover. She has been crawling for a while and is pulling herself up on everything. She figured out how to climb stairs and can do the 2 in the house. I swear I should call her hoover because I can't keep her out from under the table scrounging for food. I did the same thing when I was little so I guess The "Mother's Curse" - and in my case the "Father's Curse" too - is definitely on my head. Where the mom says, "I hope you have a child that acts just like you when you grow up." Kendra has had her 2 bottom teeth since she was 5 months old and for the past 2 months she has had all her gums swollen. Well, she finally got her top 2 teeth in the past 3 weeks. She also recently started babbling and today it was "dadadada" in the car. She is still cuddly when she is tired but she loves to play with toys and eat anything she finds. Today for the first time she started "dancing" and bobbing her head and body to music.

Day 01 - A picture of you and 15 interesting facts about yourself

I definitely don't think it is going to be every single day that I post but here is the first day.

This is me. It is a little old but I'm usually the one behind the camera so I don't have many pictures of me.

1. I have only broken 1 bone but have never worn a cast. I broke my upper jaw when I was 9 and had to wear what looked like braces but was called a wire for at least 6 weeks.

2. I have never been in an airplane.

3. I love to sing silly songs to my kids. They love it and have their favorites that I get to sing over and over again.

4. I have only been in 7 states: Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, California, Montana, and I was just inside the Colorado border just to say that I've been there.

5. My dream vacation is to go on a LDS church history tour.

6. I have been married twice. I've stayed longer in my current marriage than I did in my first. I never thought that I would be divorced when I was 24. I am much happier now that I have Matt and my kids.

7. Finding out that I was pregnant with Levi was such a relief and nerve wracking at the same time too. I had a miscarriage when I was married to my former husband and then never was able to get pregnant when I was with him. I think the Lord was blessing me by not having any children with him. Now that I'm where I am now I've been blessed with 3 kiddos in a row. I guess I'm making up for those lost years of wanting children.

8. I taught myself how to sew almost 2 years ago. I have had people try to teach me in the past but I really didn't like sewing. I was even given a sewing machine about 10 years ago and it just sat in a closet or storage gathering dust. Then I decided that it would be cheaper to use cloth diapers on my kids and even cheaper if I made them myself. So I researched and decided to just do it. I don't have very many opportunities to sew with the kids wanting my attention but I was able to make most of their Christmas and birthday gifts last year.

9. I like playing Sim games. I was addicted to The Sims 1 and 2. I started around the time I got divorced and stopped playing when I became a mother and had too many things to do. I still like to play it on the Wii sometimes but it isn't as fun. I have started playing the MySims games recently on the Wii. I usually play after the kids go to bed.

10. I can't wait until my kids fall asleep at night so I can enjoy the quiet and get some me time. I seem to stay up way too late though. I admit it I'm a night owl and the kids have been nice to me and they stay in their rooms playing (if I have Kendra with me) and let me sleep in a little. Our days usually start at 8:30 or 9am.

11. I want to be a nurse when I grow up. As if being almost 33 isn't grown up LOL. No really I was working on my pre-requisites for the Nursing program until Reah was born. Then I decided I needed to focus on being a Mommy. I still want to finish the nursing program and get my degree.

12. I took a parenting class in college right after high school and I failed it twice. :P Does that mean I'm a bad parent? No it just means that I didn't do the written assignments for the class.

13. I love chocolate and peanut butter and it's even better if they are together. Oh now my mouth is drooling LOL. That is one of my weaknesses.

14. I'm one of those moms that gets dirty looks or gets the sympathetic look when I take my kids to the grocery store. I just keep doing my thing while the kids scream and fight with each other.

15. I wanted to go by my middle name when I was younger because I loved the movie "Annie" and my middle name is Anne. I thought it sounded better and was more common than Sheryl. That didn't last very long though.

Goals for February

I have some goals to do for the month of Feb. I need some motivation to write my blog a little more so I'm going to try the 30 Days to Awesomeness challenge. OK I know that Feb doesn't have that many days but I plan on keeping up with it. Here is the schedule:

Day 27 - Why are you doing this 30 day challenge.

Day 28 - A picture of you last year and now, how have you changed since then?

Day 29 - In this past month, what have you learned.

Day 30 - Who are you?

My other goals include: spend more one-on-one time with my kiddos, keep the cute kiddo pictures up to date on here, record the funny things the kiddos do and say, and Matt thinks I need to write down the silly things I say to my kids.

So my silly saying last week was "Sippy cups don't play the piano" I should have said, "Don't bang your cup on the piano."

Levi "I have peepee in my belly. See it, Mommy" He has been doing so good with potty training. He still has lots of accidents but he is starting to get the concept of knowing when he needs to go. Now pooping is a whole new topic that has not been tried yet. I think he is afraid to go. He does have a reward for pooping in the toilet but he can only look at it right now.

Reah "I'm the purple cat! Meow!" The kids are obsessed with Eric Carle's book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See" and everyone in the family has an animal. Levi gave everyone them. Reah loves it and pretends to be a cat all the time. She loves to play with baby dolls and will nurse her baby then pull it off and say, "Ouch! No baby! Don't bite!" Apparently she has seen me do this with Kendra way too often. She also loves cars - because that is what Levi plays with. She wants to potty train and I need to just do it so I don't have the problem I did with Levi.

and another one because she sticks her tongue out as she eats. So cute!

Kendra is going places. She started rocking on her hands and knees on Christmas and now does an army crawl/belly flop type of thing. She has 2 sharp little teeth on the bottom (the first one she got on Dec 11 and the other one a week later). She is into everything now so I need to be better again about vacuuming and sweeping the floors. She loves food and tries to steal my sandwiches all the time. She has had rice cereal, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, pears, bananas, and is in the process of trying out carrots. She loves her food and can't seem to get enough.
